The Law of Cause and Effect is True2 min read

“Cause and effect is as absolute and undeviating in the hidden realm of thought as in the world of visible and material things.”

We cannot change cause and effect no matter how hard we try.Bad will always produce bad for someone and good will always produce good for someone. The law of cause and effect is true, even if the someone isn’t the person doing the good or the bad.

“Man is continually revolting against an effect without, while all the time he is nourishing and preserving its cause in his heart… Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves.”

I believe this quote to be true.As parents who are teaching their children how to govern themselves by helping them understand cause and effect, it’s helpful to know that in our hearts we often hold thoughts and feelings that continually inspire us to make the same bad choices.

Changing the Hearts

Our whole job as parents is to write upon the hearts of our children the truths and experiences that they will need to repel certain thoughts they encounter from staying in their hearts. If we can change the heart, we can change the child.

To change hearts we must keep the spirit of inspiration in our homes, and we must learn how to speak from our heart. When a person speaks from the heart, she has no motive — she only speaks honesty, and she seeks a connection with other hearts. That’s above any other desire.

It’s this connection that will change our children most.Teaching Self-Government is about changing hearts.Consciously try to feel the hearts of your family members on a daily basis.

NOTE: If you’re too busy, then it’s really hard to have heart-changing experiences. In fact, it’s really hard to even remember the people you live with have hearts.
