I’m so physically tired homeschooling my only son. He’s an energetic 8 year old. And I’m48. I am worried I’m not giving him enough. So I take him to competitive swim practice Tuesday Thursday and Friday evening because he loves to swim. Takes an hour to drive each way. Then speech club on Mondays and adventure home school club on Wednesday for friendships. Homeschool co-op on Thursday morning but I’m seriously considering dropping that and just focus on reading character building books with him. We wrote in the question last week about how the homeschool teacher is not a good fit for him. We’re doing the sonlight curriculum and classical conversation. He begs for play dates and because it’s so hard for other moms who are busy to meet up, I decided to join these clubs where he can meet friends and play.
When we homeschool it’s so hard to get him to do his work independently without wasting his time. Takes 7-8 minutes to do a simple subtraction problem because he goes into his imaginary, and starts shooting with his pencil. He still wants to stay home but I just want to stop homeschooling. I think that schooling may help him focus because he likes competition. If I place him in the Christian school I used to teach in for 9 years, I plan to substitute teacher 1 day a week. Thank you Nicholeen
