5 year old kicking me and throwing things

Sometimes when our 5 year old has earned a consequence he gets angry and will throw things at me and try to kick me. I know walking away is an automatic loss of privileges. Is being aggressive towards an adult also automatic loss of privileges? I usually start in with it seems you may be out of instructional control and go into the rule of three. Sometimes he calms down right away and other times he continues to be aggressive as I work through the rule of three. Sometimes I will do a hold, but is hard for me to stay calm while doing so sometimes. Thank you Nicholeen!
