Hi Nicholeen, I hope you are well. I need your advice about helping my 14yo son figure out how to make decisions.
Often when I ask him a question where he needs to make a decision A or B, he says I don't know, and I don't know what to do with that. A simple example is if I ask him, Do you want cake or ice cream? He likes both, but can't decide which one, so he says I don't know. He has been taking jiujitsu lessons, and at the end of his trial I asked him, do you want to continue? Or will you stop? He said, "I don't know". My sense is that one of the reasons is that he doesn't like making mistakes and he might not want to risk it that he says "yes" and then he doesn't like as much, or he losses interest. I think he likes it OK with it, but he doesn't "LOVE" the lessons. I don't know how to help him work it out and actually say "I choose A" or "I choose B". I have asked him to write down the pros and cons of taking jiujitsu. Reasons why he would like to continue and reasons why he would like to stop. I haven't reviewed it yet, and I was wondering if you have any other insights. Thank you!!
