Lying

Talk to me more about lying. We have an 8 year old son who lies. The biggest thing is that he convinces himself that he is telling the truth. He will cry and act like we are crushing his soul because we don’t believe him, but often we have not even given him a chance to lie….we say “we saw you…..” and he still denies it. How do you handle such persistent lying when he convinces himself what he is saying the truth? He does it for attention, to get out of trouble, to get out of doing something, etc. I told him to practice saying, “Yes, I did that.” So it would be easy to tell the truth when it came up. Completely at a loss.
