Giving instructions via text

Hello. Sometimes I have to text my teen to let him know of something that he needs to do when he comes home or that I need him to bring something with him, etc. I’ve been giving these instructions via text since he’s not with me at those times but I was wondering how do you handle giving an instruction when the child isn’t in front of you. Also, have you ever done a correction over text or phone? Or do you wait until the child is in front of you to give the correction? Thanks
