Correcting negative behavior

I’m having a hard time coming up with a rationale that matters to my children when correcting negative behavior. For example, if I need them to take out the trash, or I want them to start their chores now and not later, or I want them to do their homework.. what would be a reason I could give that would matter to them? Clearly playing games or whatever else they’re doing at the moment is more important to them, which is why they’re not doing what they should be doing. Thanks
