Here's what happened this morning can you tell me where I went wrong? My 11 year old asked me to pack his lunch for school, I said no because you're watching TV and have time to do it yourself but I will help you. I was reading something when he came into the kitchen and yelled at me for lying since I hadn't helped him with his lunch yet. So I corrected him, saying just now you yelled at me and called me a liar what you should've done was calmly talk to me. Since you didn't use your skills and accept the no answer you have earned an extra chore . He started yelling at me saying you missed a step, you're so unfair, . So then I said I'll need to do anther correction because you aren't accepting your consequences. So I did the same thing, saying just now you started yelling at me bc you earned a chore and didn't accept your consequences, what you should've done was use a calm voice face and body and say ok, since you didn't use your skills you have earned a 2nd chore. He started yelling more, pulling his hair, tipping chairs over, hyperventilating. I gave him a few minutes to calm down. He didn't, I said it looks to me like you're out of control so I went to the rule of 3 . I gave him the instruction to take 3 deep breaths but he breathed fast and shallow and said he was done. So I went to major maintenance, he flipped out, so he earned 2 sodas, then loss of privileges. After that he was violent, hitting walls, throwing stuff and hitting me telling me I was being unfair.
I was calm and tried praising his as much as I could through the process, but I feel like there wasn't much to praise. Did I do the process correctly or did I miss something? Thank you for your help.
