TSG Mission
Through courses, trainings, mentoring, workshops and materials, Teaching Self-Government mentors help parents analyze family relationships and problem solve difficult situations by teaching principles of self-government, the structure of a unified family atmosphere, and the tools and skills needed for self-mastery,personal freedom, and family unity.
About Nicholeen
When it comes to parenting, Nicholeen Peck is a worldwide phenomenon and leader — and for good reason! Her proven system based upon calmness, the principles of self-government, and good communication transforms even the most out-of-control teenagers and homes from chaos to calm within days. The world witnessed this in 2009 when the Peck family was featured on a one hour BBC documentary about parenting where 2 troubled British teens came to say in their home for 8 days. After 2 days the teens stopped rebelling, and by the end of the program begged not to leave the Peck family. She has appeared on various news shows and radio programs to discuss effective parenting. She’s a popular public speaker, author of the international book, Parenting a House United, and many other books including Roles, Londyn LaRae Says Okay, Porter Earns A Quarter, Big Win For Quin, Paije Takes the Stage, Popular Parenting Methods, and more. She has also written many magazine articles, and articles for this website.
Nicholeen’s Books have been translated into Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese and she has taught audiences throughout North America, and in Europe, Asia and Africa. It’s Nicholeen’s mission to heal families around the world from emotional bondage by teaching them the principles of self-government — the same principles that have set her and her family free. Though she’s an international speaker, author, mentor, former foster parent of many difficult and troubled teens, and even President of the Worldwide Organization for Women (an approved consultant for the United Nations), Nicholeen spends most of her time at home with her husband and four children, which she knows will be her greatest impact and legacy. The fact that she has such an international influence while still being a stay-at-home mom is evidence of the effectiveness of her teachings. I have never met Nicholeen Peck personally but I feel like I know her well. I am so grateful for the influence she has been in my life and in my family! Before I heard about Teaching Self-Government I tried very hard to be a good parent but used reactive methods much of the time -- scolding / yelling, spanking, silent treatment, etc. My motive was a very deep love for my children, but I could feel the conflict of interest in using those methods. I just didn't know any other way. Simply quietly talking seemed passive and ineffective. Then I was blessed to be introduced to a new way of thinking through Nicholeen's writings and website. I learned about staying calm, but having clear boundaries and limits, about teaching children in a loving, connective way to choose to correct their own behaviors. It has been a year and a half now since I first became convinced that Nicholeen had something very valuable to teach me, and my thinking and parent methods have changed so much! I am enjoying my children so much more and although our home is not perfect, it now has no spanking or yelling, and much more laughing and real talking. It's even cleaner because I am no longer afraid to give instructions and have the help I need. I feel that my children respect me more. I will be eternally grateful for what I have learned from Nicholeen Peck. I know that her work is out of real love for all people she comes in contact with, and I have felt that love for me personally, which influenced me deeply and made me feel up to the task of effecting the changes she teaches.
