You have just embarked on an amazing adventure to improve yourselves, your families, and your world.

Your process of change while learning in this course will be much like growing a tree. Some lessons will strengthen your roots, some will stabilize your family like the trunk of a tree, and other lessons will be skills and ways of teaching that reach out to others like branches.

  1. Thebranchesof the tree are like the behaviors we exhibit, the ever-changing thoughts we have, or the language we speak. In this section we will learn the language of Teaching Self-Government and get acclimated to this new environment.

  1. Thetrunkof the tree is like the heart of the tree where all the branches of behavior growout. In this section we will learn how to create the structure in the home with meetings and deliberate communication: The Family Meeting, The Couple’s Meeting, and Mentor Meetings with the child(ren).

  1. In therootsof the tree we find our strength for moving forward. The roots area of learning is where we find the deep vision and mission we have in our lives. The roots feed the tree and help to give us purpose. In this section we will do things like create a family vision, a family mission, and the family standard to help lay the foundation of creating unity in your home.

Without all three parts of this tree, your tree will not bear fruit. We encourage you to be a diligent student and work to grow your tree a little bit every day! By doing so, you will achieve the victory (the fruit) you hope to harvest: a joyfull family and a peaceful home.

If your tree of Self-Government is going to bear the fruit you truly hoped for when you signed up for this course (and it will actually bear fruit) we encourage you to:

  1. Watch the introduction video at the top of this page if you haven’t already.

  2. Take it one day at a time. Don’t expect behavioralperfection in one topic areabefore moving on to the next topic.

  3. Apply: Do the best you can to actually do the quizzes and assignments. Your ability to apply what you learn is like a muscle and it will grow stronger the more you do it. The better you apply, the faster you will absorb the learning into your heart and character.

Excuse our dust!

We are working as fast as we can to clean up this new site and move all the content over. The old site is still live at https://legacy.teachingselfgovernment.com if you need anything there.
