Three year old wants to stay with me to calm down

Hi there!

My 3.5 year old is learning the power of calm. We use the calm down spot. Many times when I take her there she will leave the calm down spot and say she wants to sit by me to calm down. It seems like a power struggle but I am not sure how to deal with that. Can you help?
