Son being teachable

Hello,

We are in the first few weeks of our home school journey & my 4 year old son is very smart. When things are new and challenging he is very interested but sometimes I need to make sure he fully understands a concept before moving on. It is at those times he begins answering questions incorrectly on purpose. He is also showing some "perfectionist" tendencies when learning as he doesn't what to try certain things until he really understands it. This first showed up in potty training a few years ago so I have been learning to slow the pressure. I have started to have more very mild reactions to mistakes & celebrate to effort instead. He's learning to read & do math concepts so I do need advice in coaching him through those moments. What is going on in his heart that needs to be addressed? Thanks for your help!
