Injured Teenager

Hello, my teenager was recently in a bike accident and he got some pretty bad road rash. I told him that for at least one week, he wouldn't be allowed to go out so he could stay home and let his wounds heal. This resulted in him missing out on some social activities like a dinner with a friend and a couple other things. He said that he felt like I was taking away his opportunity to self-govern because I made the choice for him that he needed to stay home. He said that I should have allowed him to decide if he wanted to attend those social events and allowed him to deal with any negative consequences – namely, maybe his wounds would reopen, or he would take longer to heal, etc. He did say this while disagreeing appropriately, but I stuck with him not going out. I'm curious as to how you would feel about that and if maybe we needed to find some middle ground there or he just needed to accept the no answer. Thank you!
